Why It’s Always Better to Get Introduced to a Company
You will have a far better chance of securing the interview if you can meet the recruiting manager or organization personally. You might even go straight to the hiring manager without speaking to the recruiter or HR beforehand.
So if you can, always ask to be introduced to a company. Compared to applying online or using other “cold” approach techniques, this is quicker and FAR more effective.
Because of this, networking will always be one of the most effective strategies to locate work and should be your first option.
2. Apply Directly to Targeted Companies Online
Find businesses that fit what you want to do in your career and apply directly to them via email or their “Careers” website. This should take up a significant chunk of your time.
Both businesses that are employing and those that are not hiring are included in this.
You’ll have less of a chance to hear back from a company that doesn’t seem to be hiring, but if they do and express interest in your history, you won’t have much competition.
Aim for a mix of employers, such as 70% who appear to be hiring and 30% who don’t appear to have any positions that match your qualifications advertised on their website.

What to Put in Your Email/Application:
No matter how you decide to apply to these businesses, be sure to include a cover letter or email that details why you were drawn to them.
Simply stating, “I need a job,” is insufficient. A company wants to know WHY you want THEIR job. In order to demonstrate:
- You have some knowledge of them thanks to your investigation.
- Your career goals are clear, and your company appears to meet those goals.
When you send your resume via email or cover letter, ensure sure those two things are included.
Pro tip: Remember this when getting ready for job interviews as well. Always be able to articulate your needs and the reasons you apply for the position. If not, it’s likely that you won’t be hired.
For each position, make sure to “tailor” your resume. This will increase the likelihood of hearing back, typically by 3-5 times.

3. Use LinkedIn “Easy Apply” Online
While technique #2 above calls for thorough study and careful selection of the businesses to apply to, this strategy increases the volume of applications you submit.
Despite the fact that it is one of my personal favorites and has been successful for job seekers over the past two years, you shouldn’t solely employ this strategy to find a job online.
This needs to be counterbalanced with more deliberate, targeted job searching through your network and applying to businesses that you are familiar with and enjoy.
Even if you don’t have any connections to rely on, LinkedIn Easy Apply is still one of the greatest places to look for employment online.
The main objective of this approach is to get your CV in front of plenty of employers so you can quickly begin having conversations.
The general idea: You use LinkedIn to search for jobs by keyword, location, etc.
After that, you can apply straight through LinkedIn, which does away with the requirement for a cover letter and saves you a tonne of time because you don’t have to register for many job portals or enter personal information like your name and address, etc.
Simply search for positions that look interesting, add your CV, and click “submit.” This allows you to apply for a large number of jobs and book interviews for them pretty rapidly.
Use in addition to this. But it’s one of the best methods for locating employment and getting in front of more businesses. Additionally, it may help you land a job.
4. Utilize Job Search Engines to Find the Companies that are Hiring
I do not advise mass-applying for online positions, with the exception of LinkedIn Easy Apply (mentioned above in step 3).

My advice to job seekers, as a former recruiter, is this:
Talk to recruiters and let them work for you, but don’t hold your breath. Then, it’s a welcome surprise if they return with a few job advertisements or interviews.
But when a recruiter claims they’ll start finding you new job options, keep networking, browsing job boards, and job search websites, and continue your own quest for a new career.

If you want the best ways to find a job online, you still have to do the majority of the effort in your job search.
Keep in mind that staffing and recruiting companies are an excellent place to turn if you’re trapped and unable to locate a permanent position. Some businesses manage roles with a short-term contract. Others focus on placing job seekers in full-time, long-term positions.
To avoid wasting your time talking to the wrong kinds of recruiters, be careful to ask each recruiter where their areas of expertise are.
